Firefighter Heather DePaolo, age 29, was a member of the Redding “hot shots” team. She was an extraordinary young woman and was the happiest she had ever been – fighting fire and living her life immersed in the beauty of the land she loved and had sworn to protect. While surveying the Stanza Fire with Firefighter John Self and Captain Steven Oustad, their engine slipped off of a dirt road and tumbled down an embankment.
