If helping others is what being a firefighter is all about, Juan Ojeda had it down. Whether it was helping out with a brother firefighter’s home project or telling stories and keeping people smiling during bad times, Juan was always there. An All-League football player and weightlifting champ in high school, Ojeda took to the waves as an adult, spending many off hours surfing. Here, too, he found a way to help out: Every year, Juan helped raise money for the L.A. Widows and Orphans and Disabled Firefighters Fund by conducting an annual surfing event.
