Charles “Chuck” Marshall had joined the San Diego Fire Department in 1970, as part of continuing a family tradition. He was promoted to Battalion Chief in 1998. With his father, brothers, and son also serving the San Diego Fire Department, Chuck was no stranger to the life of a firefighter. He earned a degree in 1998 from San Diego State University. While off duty, he loved to go camping, fishing, and was an avid runner. A heart attack claimed his life while out for a run in 1999.
