Granite Mountain Hotshot firefighter William “Billy” Warneke was memorialized and buried on Wednesday, July 10, in Marana, AZ. He was among 19 firefighters who died on June 30 in the Yarnell Hills Fire.
He grew up in Hemet, CA and served four years in the Marine Corps, including a tour of duty in Iraq. He joined the Hotshot crew only a few months ago, and he and his wife Roxanne were expecting their first child in December.
Billy’s remains arrived at Marana Northwest Regional Airport at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, and the procession to his service at Marana Mortuary and Cemetery began at about 3:15 p.m.
